40/40 Shootout Brings Record Crowd to Bay Point
Real Stars are Kids in the 2nd Al Hubbard Kids Fishing Experience
July 18, 2009
Record breaking crowds attended the first ever 40/40 Shootout Weigh-In at Bay Point Marina Friday night.
Although the seas were larger than forecast, weigh-ins were active with half the fleet stopping at the scales to have their catch weighed by veteran Weighmaster Paul Pristas.
Mark Crone swept the Tuna Division with the only tuna weighed in at 56.1 pounds. Monty Ferrell placed first in Wahoo with a 29.0 pound fish and Jeremy Sprenkle placed first in Dolphin at 24.0 pounds.
You can view complete results on the 40/40 Leaderboard.
It was a beautiful night at Bay Point Marina with clear skies and an onshore sea breeze. The crowd enjoyed great food from Hottie Hawgs, Guy Harvey's Island Grill, Repicci's Italian Ice and Shipwreck Island.

Jarred Jones from Knology kept everyone entertained with free t-shirts courtesy of the Knology T-Shirt Canon, and Jim Roberson provided ongoing commentary regarding the species of fish caught and their characteristics. Many people took advantage of an opportunity to examine a 56-pound yellowfin tuna up close and personal when Jim took the fish into the crowd. It was especially interesting when he reached the Children’s Adventure play area!
But the best part of the evening was when the kids that participated in the 2nd annual Al Hubbard Kids Fishing Experience came back after a great day of fishing on the bay. Twelve local charter captains donated their time, boats and tackle to take these kids fishing. Team B&T with Capt. Brian Jacquay won the competition with an aggregate weight of 42.9 lbs!
The anticipation continues to build for tonight’s weigh in of the Invitational fleet and the possible return of Blue Marlin to the leaderboard of the Bay Point Invitational.
The action begins at 6pm center stage at Bay Point Marina. |
